British songstress Ella Mai brought the heat this summer with her sultry smash hit single, Boo’d Up. The track has now, controversially, been given a remix featuring Nicki Minaj and Quavo – and the response has been somewhat lukewarm.
Mai, 23, released Boo’d Up in April and it quickly became the song of the summer peaking at number six on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. The London-native, who performed the song at the BET Awards 2018, dropped the remix on 4th July inviting Minaj and Migos rapper Quavo to join the party.
In her opening verse, Minaj raps: “He said that he want respect, I said, “That’s dope”, But that goes both ways like DeJ Loaf,” while also making reference to her hit single Super Bass. Quavo later arrives with bars such as: “Let you on my life, get a sneak peek, Listen to my heart go beep-beep, When we boo’d up, she keep me out the street-streets.”
Reacting to the remix, one listener commented on Twitter: “She could’ve put SZA, Jhene Aiko, Kehlani, Trey Songz, Chris Brown, Miguel, Tank, & that’s just to name a few! But Nicki & Quavo on a song like Boo’d Up????”
Listen to Ella Mai’s Boo’d Up remix featuring Nicki Minaj and Quavo:
Another agreed and suggested Mai could have chosen R&B singers like Chris Brown and Jhene Aiko, claiming the pair would have “killed the Boo’d Up remix.”
Clearly not a fan of Minaj, one other Twitter user weighed in: “Nicki literally has to ruin every song. It’s like she sits & says who song can I f**k up Today. Ella Mai you should of let Chris Brown on the Boo’d Up remix instead he would have did it justice.”
A fan of the original Boo’d Up added: “Boo’d Up is perfect. A remix is unneeded, no matter who is on it.”

Boo’d Up appears on Mai’s critically-acclaimed EP, Ready, which also features the tracks Anymore, My Way and Nobody Else.
Meanwhile, Minaj, 35, is currently working on her new album Queen, which is expected to arrive on 10th August.
