Shonda Rhimes will finally give fans the most exciting moment in her TV universe. Two of the executive producer’s leading ladies, Kerry Washington and Viola Davis, have teased an upcoming Scandal and How To Get Away With Murder crossover episode sending fans into a frenzy.
Washington, who plays White House fixer Olivia Pope in Scandal, was the first to drop a major clue about the crossover. In an Instagram photo, the 40-year-old is seen in character and sitting in the courthouse often used in HTGAWM. Washington added the caption: “Hey Ms @violadavis Check it out. This spot look familiar?! Where are you?”
Davis, who stars as lawyer Annalise Keating in HTGAWM, replied with her own photo which shows her standing in the White House Oval Office along with the caption: “Hey @KerryWashington, guess where I am?!
Series creator Rhimes, 47, then confirmed the anticipated news by sharing a preview of the script featuring the exact moment Olivia and Annalise come face-to-face. One of Olivia’s lines reads: “People think we lie for a living. In fact, the truth is often our greatest weapon. Anyone else?”
A voice answers: “Not knowing they’re in a crisis.” Olivia then looks up and meets eyes with a woman who introduces herself as: “Keating. Annalise Keating.” And naturally, viewers will no doubt cheer in delight at the long-awaited showdown.
ABC, which airs the two dramas, confirmed the crossover to People revealing that the episode will air in the spring.
With Washington and Davis two of the most acclaimed African-American leads on primetime TV, viewers have wondered whether their alter-egos would meet on-screen. Davis, 52, has played the troubled professor since HTGAWM debuted in 2014 and won an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series in 2015.
Washington is currently filming the seventh and final season of Scandal after six years of playing the no-nonsense crisis manager and mistress of the US President.
We certainly will #TGIT once this sure-to-be epic crossover episode airs.
