Janet Jackson fans were thrilled to hear the singer may have reconciled with her ex-boyfriend Jermaine Dupri. However well-wishers may not want to throw the confetti just yet as a source claims the former power couple are not back together.
It was reported that Dupri, 45, joined Jackson, 51, for dinner at STK Atlanta on 17 December after wrapping up her State Of The World tour. Eyewitnesses claimed to have seen the musicians cuddling and holding hands in the VIP, sparking speculation they were romantically involved once again.
Unfortunately, Entertainment Tonight reports that Jackson and Dupri are simply just friends. An insider told the publication: “They are close and she’ll always have a warm place for him in her heart. Both Janet and Jermaine are warm people, so it’s not unusual that there would be hugging or hand holding, even in public.”
The source was also careful to add that Jackson isn’t keen to date anyone while going through divorce proceedings from her estranged husband, Wissam Al Mana, whom she split from in April.
According to the insider: “Janet and Wissam Al Mana’s divorce is not finalised and she would never jeopardise or add fire to what could be a very contentious custody battle.”
Jackson and Dupri dated from 2002 until 2009 and were thought to be one of the strongest couples in music at the time. The pair collaborated together several times throughout their relationship with Dupri producing some of Jackson’s songs, including Rock With U, Call On Me and So Excited.
Dupri showed support for Jackson’s critically-acclaimed tour in September, telling Us Weekly: “I haven’t seen [it]. But I have seen a couple clips from the show. The tour looks good.”
According to ET’s source, Jackson will be spending Christmas in London so Al Mana can spend time with their 11-month-old son Eissa.
