Maya Jama has been announced as the host of the MOBOs 2017 making her the youngest presenter to do the honours. Looking back at what has been a phenomenal year for the Bristol-native, we wonder just how Maya has managed to do it all.

The 23-year-old will take on MOBOs hosting duties alongside Capital FM DJ Marvin Humes at the First Direct Arena in Leeds on 29 November. Announcing the exciting news, Maya tweeted: “WELL WELL WELL been holding this in for a sec but it’s out n bad now. I will be your 2017 @MOBOAwards host alongside the lovely @MarvinHumes This is something I’ve wanted to do since I first ever watched the mobos at home in Bristol.

Maya continued: “& now at 23 I am very proud to say I will be on that stage reppin probs boring you with the announcements now but this year has been an incredible one & what a way to end it (kinda, it ends in December but still) CARDIn B IS GNA BE THERE AND I WILL BE BEGGIN FRIEND.”

Proving just how busy her work schedule is, Maya revealed the news while on a plane flying back from Brisbane, Australia where she has appeared as a guest on I’m A Celeb Extra Camp over the past week. Maya will certainly need some rest and relaxation this Christmas after an endless string of TV presenting gigs, which have included ITV game show Cannonball, the MTV EMAs backstage and the upcoming Revolution, an upcoming action sports show on Sky One.

In addition to her TV line-up, Maya is a regular voice on radio often fronting shows for Rinse FM and BBC Radio 1. Maya has also teamed up with lingerie brand Freya to host the podcast, When Life Gives You Lemons, which explores female issues from careers to relationships with the help of some famous guests.

Maya Jama and boyfriend Stormzy

It’ll be a special night for Maya Jama and her boyfriend Stormzy, who is nominated for five MOBOs

However, the MOBOs is clearly the highlight of Maya’s year. Although she prefers to keep their relationship and professional lives separate, the night will undoubtedly be made even more special if Maya hands her boyfriend, Stormzy, one of the five awards he is nominated for.

It’s refreshing to see yet another woman of colour presenting on prime time TV. And while Maya is yet to reveal what’s in store for 2018, things are surely set to get better.
