Nicki Minaj has congratulated fellow rapper Cardi B on her Billboard number one single, Bodak Yellow. Minaj’s public gesture comes after much speculation that the female rappers were actually rivals and secretly feuding.
Cardi B, 24, is celebrating her record-breaking achievement after knocking Taylor Swift off the number one spot on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart. It was announced on 25 September that Cardi B is the first female rapper in nearly 20 years to top the charts with a solo single – Lauryn Hill was the last in 1998 with Doo Wop (That Thing).
Joining the flood of congratulatory messages for Cardi B on social media was Minaj, who wrote on Twitter: “Congratulations to a fellow NEW YAWKA on a RECORD BREAKING achievement. Bardi, this is the only thing that matters!!! Enjoy it @iamcardib.”
Minaj’s followers were surprised by the support for her ‘rival’ rapper, with one responding: “We love a mature woman who can congratulate other women!”

Another Twitter user slammed the media for pitting the two women against each other, writing: “The media would try to act as if Nicki and Cardi can’t support each other. They can and will support each other.”
However, another accused Minaj of feigning niceties, adding: “Nicki we ain’t here for this fake love. Cardi B have crushed your @Billboard record with no pressure.”
Fans suspected a rift between the musicians after Cardi B’s interview with Power 105.1’s Breakfast Club earlier in September. The Love & Hip Hop: New York star was asked about her relationship with Minaj and revealed they had “just conversated” but seemed uncomfortable with the questioning and promptly changed the topic.
Also praising Cardi B on her success was rapper Missy Elliott, who tweeted: “Congratulations @iamcardib for having a #1 record in the country that’s not as easy as it seem this huge. May u have continued blessings.”
Reacting to the support from other female rappers, Cardi B tweeted: “Every single FEMALE RAPPER CONGRATULATED ME TODAY .Is the best feeling cause I listened to ALL OF THEM.”
The reality TV star added on Instagram: “THANK YOU THANK THANK YOU ,I haven’t even showered son with all the running around. I loveee you all each and everybody contributed for this .Ya made it happen for me !!!!! The number 1 WAY!!”
