Solange Knowles has announced a new slate of Hurricane Harvey benefit concerts, joining the ranks of celebrities offering aid in the aftermath of the disaster.

Thousands have been left homeless and around 38 people have died following the tropical storm which swept across southeastern Texas on 25 August. Solange, who hails from Houston, announced that proceeds from her forthcoming show at the Orpheum Theatre in Boston on 28 September will be donated to the Hurricane Harvey relief.

In an Instagram post on 30 August, Solange said: “I will be doing a special ‘Orions Rise’ show in Boston, and ALL proceeds will go towards Hurricane Harvey Relief. I’m committed to partnering with organisations on the ground in Houston and making contributions to uplift the city that raised me with so much love. See you September 28th Boston, I thank you in advance for making this a special meaningful night!”

After a positive response to the other Orion’s Rise performances, Solange later added a third date in honour of Hurricane Harvey. The Cranes In The Sky singer told her Instagram followers: “my heart exploded when I found out how quickly radio city, greek theatre, and kennedy center sold out so we have added another radio city show, and to honor my hometown neighborhood #thirdward, $3 from every ticket sale will go directly to Hurricane Harvey relief in the area. thanks for all of your support!”

Comedian Kevin Hart has also supported the Hurricane Harvey relief fund by asking celebrities to donate $25,000 each. In just three days, Hart’s fundraiser surpassed $1m thanks to donations from the likes of Jennifer Lopez, Chris Brown and the Kardashians. In his initial pledge, Hart, 38, appealed to Solange’s sister Beyonce and her husband Jay-Z to donate but the power couple did not respond publicly.

However, Beyonce’s longtime pastor, Rev. Rudy Rasmas from the St John’s United Methodist Church, revealed to TMZ that the married couple have made staggering contributions to the relief effort privately.
